Larry Rathbun


Larry is a retired Anesthesiologist who served 9-1/2 years active duty in the Navy and 11-1/2 years in the reserves retiring in 1990 as Captain. He was a certified hard hat diver, a submarine medical officer,, 4MARDIV SURGEON among several assignments. He and his wife, Charlene, met in 2007 in Mobile, married and moved to Fairhope in 2008. He is a member of the Point Clear Rotary and volunteered at Thomas Hospital.

Jerry W. Morrison served in the U.S. Army Reserve for over 20 years retiring as a Civil Affairs Officer.  His concurrent career was in banking retiring as a C.E.O.  Jerry and his wife, Linda. own a real estate development company.  They are the proud parents of two lovely daughters and two wonderful grandchildren. Jerry appreciates the opportunity to serve as an officer and director for the Baldwin County Chapter of MOAA.

Frank, a graduate of Fairhope HS and the U of Alabama was commissioned a 2nd Lt upon graduation. During his 20 plus years of active duty he served two tours each in Vietnam, Germany and Thailand. His various logistics duties include unit command, advisor, instructor and staff officer at both Army and Joint commands. Upon retiring as a Lt. Colonel, he worked as a logistics engineer for defense contractors in both Virginia and Colorado. Following his 2nd retirement Frank and Elvira, his wife of over 54 years settled in Fairhope. Frank joined the organizing group in 2012 and eventually Treasurer of the new MOAA chapter in Baldwin County.

Jim graduated from the University of Alabama in 1973 and was commissioned through the Air Force ROTC program.  His military career included service in active and reserve components with Air Defense Command, Tactical Air Command, Air Combat Command, Air Force Space Command and Air Mobility Command.  Jim served in operational and staff positions as a weapons controller,  tactical communications officer, and director of Alabama National Guard counter drug program.  He retired in 2006 while serving as deputy commander, 226th Combat Communications Group, Alabama Air National Guard.  He and his wife, Lee, recently made Fairhope their permanent home.
Dennis Koppersmith : Director1

Dennis Koppersmith


Dennis is a native of Fairhope, AL and graduated from Fairhope High School in 1971. He then attended Troy State University and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education. In JAN 81 he enlisted in the AL ARNG and in JUN 82 earned his commission through the Alabama Military Academy OCS program as a 2nd LT Armor Officer. He then began a career serving primarily in the 31st Separate Armor Brigade. He duties included: platoon leader E Troop 31st Cavalry, Commander E Troop, 31st Cavalry, Commander B/1/167 Infantry, S2 31st Armor Brigade, Commander 1/131 AR BN. In 2004 he was called to active duty in support of Operation Noble Eagle and was assigned to Joint Force Headquarters-Homeland Security, Norfolk Navy Base, Norfolk, VA and then to Joint Task Force-Civil Support, Ft. Monroe, VA. At these joint units he worked in J2 /J3 operations. After completing this year of active duty Dennis returned to the AL ARNG and retired as a LTC with 24 years of service.
While serving in the ARNG Dennis was employed with Riviera Utilities, Daphne, AL. He was an electrical utility lineman and supervisor and retired in SEP 13 after 37 years of work. Dennis and his wife, Lori, live in Fairhope and have two sons and one grandson.
Patrice Tiggs : Director3

S. Patrice Tiggs AKA Shawn Patrice Collins- Tiggs served in the U.S Army 1982-85 as an enlisted and attended ROTC at Cal State Fullerton while getting her degree at UC Irvine. She was commission as a Transportation Officer 1987 and was the USAR commanding officer of the 680 Transportation Det. at Ft. Story, VA during Operation Desert Shield. She met her husband, who also served in the Army, while serving at Ft. Ord CA. She settled in Bay Minette in 2013 when her husband was hired by Austal USA Mobile Al. She is currently the Director of the Snook Youth Club located in Foley.
Richard Jaehne : Director2

Richard Jaehne


Richard L Jaehne joined the Marine Corps in 1966, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1968 and retired in 1997 as a Colonel. Over his 29 year Marine Corps career, he served as an infantry platoon and company commander in Vietnam, and in command, operational, and education positions in the US, the far east, Latin America, Europe and the Mideast. His last two positions were as Director of Marine Corps Operations worldwide in Washington, DC and then as the Commandant of NATO’s operational school in Oberammergau, Germany. He has a BS in Finance from the University of Utah and MS in Systems from the University of Southern California and is a graduate of the Air War College. His military awards include the Navy Cross and Purple Heart. From 1997 to 2012 he served as the Director of the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute in Urbana-Champaign, which is the statutory Illinois State Fire Academy, which trains 50,000 firefighters and other first responders annually.

Jerry served 30 years in the active Army as an optometrist and retired in 2000.  He and his wife, Joanna, moved to Daphne in 2004 and he was involved in the organizing activities that lead to the Baldwin County Satellite to the South Alabama Chapter of MOAA and has served as the POC and eventually president of this group since its original organizing meetings in March of 2012.

Legislative Liaison

Colonel W. Sid Vogel, U.S. Army (Retired) spent a career as an Engineer Officer and  a Latin American Specialist in the U.S. Army.  He was selected as an Olmsted Scholar and has graduate degrees from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and Stanford University.  He served on the personal staff of the Southern Command Commander during Operation Just Cause in Panama, and Commanded a Combat Engineer Battalion in Operation Desert Storm.  His final Command was the Mobile District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Colonel Vogel started and served as  the President of Asplundh Environmental Services, Inc. and performed environmental clean-up and construction throughout the US, Latin America, the Mid-East and Asia.
Ken Cooper : Webmaster

Ken Cooper


Ken was commissioned from Uni .Ala. ROTC in 1964 and entered active duty in 1970. He served as an aerospace engineer on the lifting body project and the SR-71 until 1972. He served in the USAR from 1972 until 1992 as a S4 in a CA Group, Commander 410th Smoke Generator Co., Director of Mobilization for the 81st ARCOM (GA and FL) and as G6 for the 1st COSCOM in Desert Storm. In 1992 he entered the GA ARNG and in 1995 the KY ARNG as a CW2. He retired in 1999 as a LtCol. He was in academia for 24 years and worked for Oracle Corp for 18 years. He and his wife, Patricia retired to Fairhope in 2007.
